Smoking Cessation Resources
From the CDC website: "Smoking harms nearly every organ of the body, causing many diseases and reducing the health of smokers in general. The adverse health effects of cigarette smoking account for an estimated 438,000 deaths, or nearly 1 of every 5 deaths, each year in the United States. More deaths are caused each year by tobacco use than by all deaths from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and murders combined." (for more information about the harmful effects of nicotine, please visit the CDC website on Health Effects of Smoking)
If you or a loved one have decided to quit smoking, congratulations on taking the first step to improve your health! You are not alone. There are new advances in smoking cessation treatments and resources that can help.
All of our doctors have been trained in the latest advances in the treatment of smoking cessation and would be happy to help you along the road to quitting.
In addition to the nicotine patch and gum, there are medications available that offer help to millions of patients who are trying to quit smoking. Whether or not you decide that medications may help you along the road to recovery, there are important free resources to help you learn new and effective tools to combat the habits you have developed and deal with the cravings you may experience:
- The American Cancer Society offers a free telephonic support program (1-800-QUIT-NOW), and the American Lung Association offers a free web-based program at lungusa.org>> Quit Smoking >> Freedom from Smoking.
- The California Smoking Helpline offers a free online support program in multiple languages (1-800-NO-BUTTS) to residents of California.
- Pfizer sponsors a free web-based program (GET QUIT) for smokers attempting to quit with Chantix — members can enroll online at chantix.com or call 1-877-CHANTIX
Again, congratulations on taking the first step towards a healthier tomorrow! If you would like to schedule an appointment to speak with one of our doctors about quitting smoking or smoking cessation treatments, feel free to call (949) 257-4217 or e-mail [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you!
